Shattered vows - 54
(Author’s POV)
Pranavi had already told Vedant she would never meet him again. With tears clouding her eyes, she walked into the house without once looking back, silently cursing herself for ever letting her heart trust him. Aarav stood there, watching helplessly. His chest ached as he saw his sister climbing the stairs with trembling shoulders, her tears hidden but not invisible.
(Aarav’s POV)
If only Pihu had never learned the truth… she would still be her old self — laughing, arguing with me over silly things, filling the house with her cheerful spirit. Today, Pihu’s smile has been stolen, and the thief is Vedant Rathore.
I never wanted this moment to come. She finally allowed herself to believe in love again after years, and fate led her to him — the son of the very man who murdered our parents. The past is threatening to repeat itself, and I cannot allow her to be broken by betrayal. The truth, I know, she could somehow endure… but betrayal? That would shatter her completely.
My sister has never wished harm upon anyone. To her, the world is kind, helpful, and pure. But I know better — this world is shades of black and white, where some lies are bigger and some smaller, where wrongdoings differ only in degree.
Pranavi slipped into her room, hiding her tears from me as though they were a secret. My heart clenched, but I could only signal to Shalini Aunty, “Please… go to her. She trusts you, she listens to you. Only you can calm her now. Bring her back before this pain consumes her.”
Because I cannot — I will not — let my sister weep because of a man like Vedant Rathore. He does not deserve her tears.

(Pranavi’s POV)
With great difficulty, I slipped into my room, hiding my tears from Aarav Bhai and Shalini Aunty. The moment I closed the door, I leaned against it, my chest heaving as though the weight of the world was pressing down on me. I locked it, desperate for a moment of solitude — a moment where I could think, breathe, and somehow hold myself together.
I couldn’t let Aarav Bhai see me like this. I couldn’t let him know that his sister was breaking — drowning in grief, betrayal, and despair. The room was engulfed in darkness, the only light spilling faintly from the balcony, where the moon stood like a silent witness to my pain.
This… this was my world now.
A world of silence, shadows, and shattered trust.
I loved Vedant Rathore with all my heart, I realized the bitter truth — he had always wanted to destroy me, to destroy my family. I was too blind to see it, too naïve to understand. And in that blindness… I gave him my heart.
But no more.
Now, he is nothing but a stranger to me. A name I wish to erase, a face I want to forget. I swear on my own broken heart — I will tear him out of my soul, even if it costs me everything.

(Author’s POV)
Pranavi sat at the edge of her bed, clutching the bedsheet so tightly that her knuckles turned pale. A storm of rage and agony brewed inside her, and in that storm, she made herself a vow — she would walk away from Vedant Rathore, and she would never, ever return to him.
Her hands trembled as she snatched the bedsheet, throwing it violently across the room. Pillows scattered, the blanket fell to the ground, and her voice cracked as she screamed, “I hate you, Vedant! I hate you!”
Tears blurred her vision, but her fury drove her toward the dressing table. With one sweep of her arm, she sent everything crashing to the floor. Bottles shattered, trinkets rolled away, and in a broken whisper, she spat, “I never loved you… never. Not even once.”
But her words betrayed her heart.
Drained, she sank to the floor beside the bed, hugging her knees to her chest, her body curling into itself as if to shield her soul from the wreckage of her emotions.
A sharp knock broke the silence. She froze, wiping her tears hurriedly with the back of her trembling hand. Forcing herself up, she opened the door — and found Shalini Aunty standing there.
The sight of her broke the fragile wall Pranavi had built. She threw herself into Aunty’s arms, sobbing, “Aunty… I can’t stay here anymore. Please, take me with you… take me back to the place where you and Maa-Papa lived. I beg you, I don’t want to stay here.”
Shalini Aunty’s heart ached at the desperation in her voice. She gently cupped Pranavi’s face, brushing her damp hair back, her eyes scanning the wrecked room. She had never imagined seeing Pranavi in such ruins, broken once again at a point of no return.
“Yes, my child,” she whispered, her voice steady though her own heart trembled. “I’ll take you with me. Pack your things. Aarav… I’ll handle him.”
Guiding her back to the bed, Shalini Aunty made her lie down. Her hand stroked Pranavi’s hair in a rhythm of comfort. “Rest, my dear. Don’t cry. Don’t worry about anything. I’m here now.”
Pranavi’s lashes fluttered shut, exhaustion pulling her into slumber. Yet even in sleep, tears slipped from the corners of her eyes — silent proof of a heart that still ached for the man she wished to forget...
